Migrating to Canada: What to Expect

Immigration is a huge thing to undertake and even in the most welcoming of places, immersing yourself in a new culture can be daunting. Canada might be one of the most painless places to transition to, though, and that's down to a combination of welcoming people and a helpful government. For new immigrants, there is so much more to look forward to than there is to be afraid of.

You will find that the people in the cities and towns across the world's second largest country are inquisitive, welcoming and ready embrace new cultures, so take every opportunity to get out there and meet people when you first arrive. Look out for mixers and open social events in your area which are great ways to meet new people. If you are less confident in your language skills then look for local, community-run language courses. Not only could you improve your linguistic skills, but you will most likely meet a lot of like-minded people.

And it's not just the people, the government go to great lengths to make sure new immigrants are welcome. Be sure to check the 'New Immigrants' section of the CIC website for programs and information aimed at new immigrants. They have interactive games to teach you about elements of Canadian culture, guides on how to apply for the various documents you might need as well as links to local resources in your area for you to take advantage of.
