How Students Gain Permanent Residency in Canada

Foreign students in Canada often want to stay and Canada's keen to encourage this because of high employment demands. Students can apply for both temporary study and permanent residence in Canada and can enroll in several fast-track programs after they've graduated.

The Canadian Experience Class programme's suitable for foreign students who have graduated from an accredited higher educational establishment after completing a full-time 2-year Canadian study and worked for at least 12 months in a skilled, full-time job after graduating. They can then apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Quebec Experience Class is a 2-stage process ideal for those applying to live in Quebec. First, they must obtain a 'Certificat de Sélection du Quebec' then apply to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada for acceptance. The applicant must have a diploma or degree from an educational institution recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Education within 3 years of their application, having completed 2 years of study and, if not in French, either have completed an advanced French course in Quebec or prove their proficiency in an official test.

Canadian provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have foreign student programmes for those who graduated from a Canadian higher educational establishment. There can be additional requirements such as a job offer or work experience in the province where the applicant studied for the degree.

With these programs, the applicant can obtain their Canada permanent residency quicker than through other means.
